Star Wars dice.
Edge of the Empire + Funky Dice
I picked up Fantasy Flight’s Star Wars: The Edge of the Empire Beginner Game yesterday while I was in Ottawa. I popped over to Wizard’s Tower and there it was sitting on the shelf. I wasn’t going to pick up the new Star Wars rpg since I had WEG’s and also WOTC versions of the game and I really, really, didn’t need another Star Wars game to clutter up my shelf.
But, on a whim I grabbed it since it came with the newfangled dice and I just wanted to see what the mechanics were. I’m really not into the gimmicky role playing games that offer cards, tokens, different design dice. I like my games old fashioned; since I’m an old-fashioned kind of guy. I had no other interest in the game; so here I am with the beginner box set and glancing through the rulebook and characters provided and thinking of giving it a shot to see how it all works out.
Last night an idea occurred to me and I decided to go with it. Designing a city in a system and having the setting of the campaign take place from there with the occasional excursion else where. I was thinking of more of a crime detective series for two/three players and have them go about solving crimes.
Sort of like a SWAT and Flashpoint meets Hawaii 5-0 task force teams. I’ve been itching to do something like this and thought of using the Star Wars d20 RPG where the players are on Coruscant. But, with using MegaTraveller I have a much freer reign.

Very cool, billiambabble! Me likes!
Tonight’s game was called on account of two players not showing up this evening, one was away at a badminton tourney and the other had family commitment to tend too. So, we just sat around and chatted about old adventures and campaigns we’ve been through, the various games that we liked to play and what not.
We were all jazzed to play some Cyberpunk but the others felt it wouldn’t be kosher to go on without the missing. And, that’s understandable since when we last left off was just a prelude to what was to come.
And after having three teeth extracted on Thursday afternoon, I could use the break in the action as well. We chatted about Star Wars and what episode VII might be about; also touched upon the role playing games using the Star Wars universe; West End Games and WOTC and if I were to start a SW campaign (sometime in the near future) what system would they like to play with.
d20 Star Wars seems to be their choice and I’m okay with that. So, here I sit digging through some old notes and rewriting one of my first adventures I had written for Star Wars (the WEG version) and converting it over to the d20 system.
OH. MY. GAWD. YES!
