A quick & dirty Rifts session

(this write up had been sitting in queue and I forgot to upload it).

Cast of Characters
Elliot “Elle” Seven, O.C.C Borg (Peyton)

Coalition Borg, Elle Seven, is part of unit that is sent to investigate strange mishap in a frontier outpost. Elle is a member of what her fellow soldiers call Pharrell’s Pharoahs. Lead by Tops Pharrell.

Pharrell is informing them about their current assignment, when the ship is rocked violently from explosions. The pilot loses control and Pharrell orders his troop to drop!

"We’re going in hot, lads and lasses! Be prepared for Hell!"

As the bay door opens Elle can see several flak and the ground below, she presumes they are over an ancient settlement since she can see what time and mother nature has down to an ancient city below.

Plunging out of the dropship and into a lot of flak. Elle drops down, dodging explosions and she hits the ground running. Into a pile of Xiticix! Elle and the remaining squad fight back to back amongst two dozen of these instectoid warriors!

She maneuvers to land on one of the Xiticix and hits him hard, quashing him like the bug it is. She proceeds firing around here while fellow squad members land about her and they form into a mini group.

Blasters are singing their songs of doom and this doesn’t matter who hears this song because it ends in injury (but more of death). In the process Elle manages to dispatch three of the creatures as her teammates handle the other.

After all was said and down only three borgs remained standing; Elle, Tops and Canary Cane. They search through the area to see if any other team members have made it. Gramps is still kicking but missing an arm and a leg, Domo is missing his lower torso but still alive and Ex-Travis has taken several wounds but cannot move.

Tops calls in an extraction since they drop shop had crashed.

The session was just a quick and dirty combat orientated session inspired by such movies as The Edge of Tomorrow, Battle: LA and Aliens.

Decided to watch a series of movies in what I think in chronological order (though I don’t think the AvP series maybe an “alternate universe” kind of thing. But, this is what I think how the movies fall into place:

Predator, Predator 2, AvP, AvP: Requiem, Predators, Prometheus, Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien: Resurrection.

I think AvP movies is where the Fonz jumped the shark (or Nuked the Fridge as the kids say these days). Though, the movie brought the two franchise together but I wonder why they didn’t go with an established story from Dark Horse comic series and went off on a different tangent. I like the character of Alexa Woods (portrayed by Sanaa Lathan) and figured that she would carry the mantle of Ripley in the sequels.

The whole thing was sketchy as well since the alien incubation seemed to short and to quick. I guess the producers wanted things to movie at a rapid fire pace. Alexa was a strong female lead and I figured she’s get more kick ass in the sequels just like Ripley.

Boy, was I wrong. I presumed Alexa Woods froze to death after AvP because AvP: Requiem went a total direction with it’s Dawson Creek type cast. There was a few things in this movie that I didn’t like. Especially, the hospital scene in the maternity ward. I just felt it went too far; the one lone predator that arrive to clean up the mess didn’t do a very good job as well. I figured he’d be a kick ass like the first and second predator movies; but I guess he was the “derp” one. The movie ended with a hint of what was to come in the next AVP movie but that hasn’t happened.

Instead we get Robert Rodriguez beautiful take of the Predator series with a sort of reboot. I presume ignoring the AvP movies altogether and picking up after the Predator 2 movie. The movie had heart, but it wasn’t in the right place. It was a helluva lot better than the AVP and sort of had the feel of the first Predator movie. A group of warriors up against a greater foe(s) on a game reserve world. It was enjoyable romp.

Finally a true expert on the topic!

I’m not saying it was aliens, but it’s aliens!
